Central European University organises the fourteenth edition of the CEU Summer University (SUN).
We invite students and young scholars to join the course ‘Mediation and Other Methods to Foster Democratic Dialogue’.

In a two-week course the program facilitates the exchange of ideas and cooperative projects among mediation scholars, practitioners, trainers, and students in the East and West. In addition to providing an introduction to mediation, it provides a teaching and training template for scholars and practitioners from around the world to adapt for use in their home countries.

Through lecture, discussion, demonstration and role-plays, students will be introduced to mediation and facilitation theory and skills and examine the impact of culture and context on the consensus-building approach adopted. The course also will examine a variety of strategies to foster and support democratic and constructive dialogue.

Eligibility
The program encourages applications from junior and middle career faculty as well as graduate students and professionals in law, social science, public administration, psychology, social work, public policy, political science, government and labor relations from emerging democracies worldwide. However, undergraduates without a university degree will not be considered.

Language requirement
The language of instruction is English; thus all applicants have to demonstrate a strong command of spoken and written English to be able to participate actively in discussions at seminars and workshops. (In some instances shortlisted applicants may be contacted for a telephone interview.)

Application process
The applicant need to apply through the online SUN Application Form by submitting  following documents until 15 February, 2010:

1. Completed online SUN Application Form
2. Letter of recommendation
3. A full curriculum vitae or resume, including a list of publications, if any
4. Statement of Purpose
5. Writing sample in English (max. 10 pages) related to the course theme

* A copy of an article in English published recently (if available)
* A copy of an English language certificate (if available)

Financial matters
Tuition fees: 550 eur

Financial aid is available in the following categories:
– tuition waiver
– accommodation grant
– travel grant (full or partial)
