MA Cultural Production in Salzburg, Austria

Focussing on the interconnections between art, culture and media, and political, economic and social processes, this new university programme at the University of Salzburg balances innovative cultural theory with practice-oriented methods.

As a postgraduate programme over 2,5 years (blocked sessions) the MA comprises five semesters. The transdisciplinary curriculum is laid out at the intersections of art practice, cultural and communication studies, and a social science approach to economy. Cluster topics in relation to Space & Location, Vision & Change and Networks & Decentralisation allow for specialisation in one of the central fields of cultural production. Drawing on participants own professional interests, individual projects are constantly developed further and implemented in their contextual complexity. The programme includes a 3-week internship, individual coaching and a Master thesis.

The field of activity of cultural producers stretches from leading tasks in cultural and art institutions to project-related initiation and formation of cultural productions. The development of new forms of work and initiatives of individual cultural productions are centrally tied to the profession of cultural producers.

What you bring
Engagement and enthusiasm for art and culture
Motivation to gain an extensive understanding about contextual processes of development and sustainable methods
Interest in learning practice-oriented, analytical and complex skills for the conception and implementation of cultural productions and projects
University degree (at least Baccalaureate)
Some experience in the field of cultural production and organisation

Scholarships

For the start of the new MA in Cultural Production two partial scholarships (each 24% off) are offered:

Partial Scholarship of `Stadt Salzburg´
The Cultural Department of the `Stadt Salzburg´ offers a partial scholarship amounting to 3000€ for applicants of developing or/and South-eastern European Countries.

Partial Scholarship of `Wissenschaft und Kunst
The `Schwerpunkt Wissenschaft und Kunst´ (Focus Area Arts & Humanities´) itself offers a partial scholarship amountin to 3000€ for graduates of the University of Salzburg and the Mozarteum Salzburg and for graduates of their respective Partner Universities.

For both scholarships you are eligible if you are an university graduate and have relevant work experience in the field of cultural production. If you are interested in one of these partial scholarships please attach a statement of grounds to your application.

  • Letter of motivation: Your reasons and interests (approximately 1-2 pages)
  • Curriculum vitae: best in chronological form.
  • Copies of degrees: Copy of your exam(s) (at least bachelor degree)
  • Evidence of work experience: Evidence of fomer or recent employees
  • Letter of recommendation: One or preferably two letters of recommendation e.g. from a former employee or someone within the acacemic field
  • Copy of passport

Application Process
Send you application before the 28th of May. Your Application will be proved until 5th June. If you fullfill all requirements you will be contacted via email. In case of any further questions or the necessary of a a personal interview an appointment for a phonecall/online-presentation with the programm directors will be made.

By of Middle June 2010 you will be informed about if you’ve have been accepted for the MA in Cultural Production starting in the wintersemester of 2010.
