Masterclass for professional press photographers in Southeastern Europe

Open to: 15 young professional photographers from 9 countries in Southeastern Europe: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia.

The Masterclass ‘SEE New Perspectives’ is an initiative of World Press Photo and the Robert Bosch Stiftung. It will take place between July and December 2010. The images of the Balkans in the 1990s have largely shaped the perception of the region across the world, as well as within the region.

The Masterclass aims:
* to challenge existing perceptions and encourage photographers to explore new perspectives of the region;
* to propel the participants in their professional development and strengthen their skills in storytelling.

The Masterclass ‘SEE New Perspectives’ will be divided into three different phases:
1. Masterclass
The selected photographers will be invited to participate in a Masterclass in Berlin, Germany, from 1-8 September 2010. During this Masterclass, the participants will be tutored by three prominent international photographers, photo editors and curators. The Masterclass will include lectures on the theory of photojournalism, practical exercises, individual reviews, training in online utilities and interactive presentations by the tutors.

2. Assignment
During the Masterclass, the participants will elaborate and discuss their proposal for the assignment, which they will have to complete between mid-September and the end of November 2010.

3. Final seminar
The results of the assignment will be presented to and discussed with the other participants and tutors in a final three-day seminar at the beginning of December 2010 in Berlin, Germany.

Eligibility
Applicants must:
* have nationality and residency from one the following countries within Southeastern Europe: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania or Serbia;
* work as a professional photographer in the field of photojournalism and/or documentary photography, Professional here means either one, or a combination, of the following criteria:
* That you have a press card and/or;
* That your work has been published regularly in local or international newspapers, magazines or online publications during the past year and/or;
* That your work has been exhibited or has been published in a book during the previous four years.
* must have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 15 years professional working experience

Application procedure
All interested applicant should register online and complete the registration form. World Press Photo will check the professional background and if the application is approved, applicants will receive a username and password by email.

Then the applicants need to submit additional documents:
* Upload two scans of work published in the preceding 12 months (between April 2009 and April 2010) ;
* Upload updated CV;
* Fill in the latest job occupation;
* Fill in the motivation to participate in the Masterclass ‘SEE New Perspectives’;
* Fill in the learning needs;
* Fill in two story ideas for your project;
* Upload and edit examples of your work (10-20 single images, plus one story consisting of 5-12 images).

The deadline to register and receive a username and password is 24th May 2010. The deadline to submit your application is 31th May 2010.
