travel and accommodation expenses are covered for participants from CEI countries, for Romania and Bulgaria only accommodation expenses.

Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) and Center for European and Security Affairs (CESA) announce the call for applications for the Regional Training Workshop Building Civil Society Capacities for Improved Security, that will take place in Durres, ALBANIA during November 18th to 21st, 2010. The event will be attended by 25 participants (10 participants from Security Management Network and civil society representatives in Albania; and 15 representatives from the civil society, media and academic institutions from the region). The training workshop relies on the experience established by Institute for Democracy and Mediation through the Security Management Network (SMN), a body of 15 independent researchers trained from IDM in security issues, and SMN success in encouraging a proactive approach and qualitative input of third sector expertise in security related policy matters.

Erbert Stiftung.

Think tank and civil society representatives from the CEI countries, young scholars, media, representatives from governmental bodies, independent experts etc.

Which countries are eligible:

25 Participants from the Eastern and South Eastern Europe will attend the training workshop. Eligible countries for participating in this activity are: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine. (Participants from Romania and Bulgaria must pay they travel expenses).

Participants from other Central European Initiative countries may be accepted, but they must cover their own expenses (travel & accommodation).

Topics of the workshops:

  • Role of the civil society in security area / policy making and monitoring
  • How to build civil society capacities to influence and improve security sector governance & policies
  • Research tools in the security sector / Understanding the policy cycle and policy work
  • How to develop effective policy oriented papers
  • Promoting gender equality and non-discrimination in the security sector reform – Perspectives from the civil society
  • Assessing and monitoring Security Sector Reform
  • Developing National Security Strategies – The role of Civil Society

Costs

With the financial support of Central European Initiative and Friedrich Erbert Stiftung, IDM would be able to cover travel costs and accommodation expenses for 25 participants from the non-EU CEI countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine. For participants from Romania and Bulgaria, IDM would cover only accommodation expenses.

Financial support will be granted, based on the merits of the applicants
