PhD Research Fellowships in Education, Norway

The University of Agder invites applications for full-time fixed-term appointment as PhD Research Fellow in Education for a period of three years, at the Department of Education, Faculty of Humanities and Education. The position is currently located in Kristiansand, Norway.

The Department offers an active and stimulating academic environment emphasizing the following areas of priority: learning, teaching and education as a profession. This position announcement is associated with the priority areas of teaching and teaching as a profession. It is assumed that the PhD research fellow will choose research topics within these areas of study.

Through theoretical and empirical educational research, the teaching group works with questions regarding the definition of teaching and the degree to which teaching creates measurable results within learning. This work is limited to how teaching is conducted in day-care centres and schools. We therefore desire a research fellow who, through empirical research, can aid in strengthening this area of priority.

The professional area has an academic focus on teaching, especially pre-school education and teacher education, as well as on educational work at various levels and in various types of schools. Main research topics include the teaching profession’s knowledge bases, ideals and ethics as well as the educational profession in general. Research approaches may be of a comparative nature.

Requirements

Applicants must have the necessary qualifications in order to be appointed as PhD research fellow, corresponding to a master’s degree in education or its equivalent.

The appointee must have the ability to work in a goal-oriented, organised, focused and independent manner. During the assessment process, emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s examination results as well as any previous developmental and/or published works. Relevant practice, personal suitability and collaborative abilities will also be emphasised. Qualified applicants may be summoned to an interview.

Applicants must submit a project proposal whose scope lies within the abovementioned areas of priority. Applicants should also give a description of their interest and experience in the subject area. The project proposal should comprise a maximum of ten pages in length, including the reference list. The proposal must contain a preliminary presentation of the problematic approach, theoretical foundation, methodical approach and planned progression for the doctoral project. The quality of the project proposal will receive a high level of consideration during the application assessment process.

Fellowship

The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.515, code 1017, salary grade 48. A 2 % compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
