Ikon, one of the UK’s leading international contemporary art galleries seeks a dynamic and creative individual for the post of Curator. They will work with the Director to initiate and deliver an ambitious exhibition programme at the gallery and off-site. The successful candidate will have at least 5 years experience working within an international contemporary visual art context, have considerable experience of writing and publishing, will be audience focused and will be interested in supporting the development of visual artists locally, nationally and internationally.

The post is offered on a full time permanent basis.

  • Manage the work of teams and individuals
  • Originate concepts for cultural events (exhibition, education event etc)
  • Assess the viability of cultural projects (exhibitions, catalogues, education events etc)
  • Develop plans for a cultural project
  • Realise a cultural/education project
  • Acquire contributions to a cultural project
  • Seek and secure external support for art
  • Contribute to selection of required personnel
  • Seek and secure external support for art
  • Contribute to the securing of external funding and support for your organisation and programme
  • Represent the organisation
  • Contribute to marketing of products and services
  • Provide information to support decision-making
  • Writing and editing skills
  • High standard of written and spoken English
  • An extensive knowledge of contemporary art theory and practice
  • Ability to speak confidently in public to a range of groups
  • Extensive experience of organising art projects/exhibitions
  • Managing budgets
