EM2-STEM – Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Project for WB and EU students

EM2-STEM offers scholarships to higher education students and staff for study, research and professional exchanges between the European Union and the Western Balkans. Students and staff working in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) are strongly encouraged to apply and students and staff of other disciplines will be considered. These are high profile opportunities with generous grants funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus Mundus Programme (Action 2). The application process is competitive and only the best applicants will be selected.

About Program

In total, there are 264 scholarships / fellowships available for the duration of the project. All mobilities must start by 31 December 2011 and conclude by 30 November 2014 (staff mobilities are for one month and may start at any time). The duration of the exchange depends on your level of studies or research/staff status whether that is Bachelor, Master, PhD, Post Doctorate and Staff (Administrative & Teaching). There is one call for applications, opening in February 2011, closing on 15 April 2011.

The following Western Balkan and European Union countries are represented in the consortium managing the project, further information is available in the partners section of this website. Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo,  Macedonia  and Serbia(WB) and Finland, Germany, Ireland,Poland, Romania , United Kingdom(EU).

This project is funded by the European Union’s Erasmus Mundus Programme, Action 2 Strand 1.  The Programme is managed by the Executive Agency Education, Audiovisual and Culture.

Scholarships

EM2-STEM scholarships are for:
1. students and staff members from Western Balkan (WB) countries wanting to go to an EU University
2. students and staff members from the EU partner Universities wanting to go to a Western Balkan university

Eligibility

European students
To be eligible, European undergraduate and master students as well as doctorate and post-doctorate candidates, referred as “European students”:
1. Must be a national of one of the eligible European countries;
2. Must be registered at one of the European HEIs within the partnership;
Students fulfilling the following conditions are also eligible to apply :
– Students applying for a masters mobility who have obtained a first higher education degree or a recognised equivalent level of learning from a European HEI within the partnership during the same academic year coinciding with the start of the project eligibility period;
– Students applying for doctorate mobility who have obtained a second higher education degree or a recognised equivalent level of learning from a European HEI within the partnership during the same academic year coinciding with the start of the project eligibility period;
– Students applying for a post-doctorate mobility who have obtained their doctorate in the last two years and must have the support of a European HEI within the partnership to carry out a post-doctorate mobility. This can be for research, training and attending highly specialised courses.
3. Must have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages currently spoken in the hosting countries.
4. Undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year of studies at first higher education level.

Third-country students
To be eligible, third-country undergraduate and master students as well as doctoral and post-doctoral candidates, referred as “third-country students”:
1. Must be a national of one of the third-countries covered by the relevant lot (Western Balkans – Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244/99, Montenegro, Serbia, the former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia);
2. Must have not resided nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of the European countries at the time of submitting their application to the partnership;
3. For Target Group 1 (TGI): students need to be registered at one of the third-country HEIs within the partnership at the time of submitting their application to the partnership. Undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year of studies in their home institution;
4. For Target Group 2 (TGII): students need either to be registered in a HEI (not included in the partnership) of the third-country concerned by the lot or having obtained a university degree or equivalent by an institution of these third-countries.
5. For Target Group 3 (TGIII): students need to be nationals of one of the third-countries concerned by the lot and be part of the vulnerable target groups.
6. Must have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages currently spoken in the hosting countries.

Application to EM2-STEM is by application form. The application form is online and does not have to be completed in one sitting. After registering you will have a password allowing you to access your application form at any time before the deadline, 15th April 2011, 12:00 GMT, UK time.   1. Studenti na UKIM nemaat pravo na apliciranje? :/ Probav da popolnam aplikacija i vo poleto kade treba da se obelezhi vo koja obrazovna institucija sme registrirani, go nema UKIM

    I was wondering is there a possbility to apply for the programme although you are graduate from the University of Belgrade, or the list of possible candidate is limited to thoss universities that were listed?
