Summer School “Publishing in Public Health”, Berlin

The summer school “Publishing in Public Health”, organised by the Berlin School of Public Health, will take place from September 4 to 11, 2011 in Berlin, Germany. The summer school is part of the project “Visibility of Public Teaching and Research in South-East Europe” sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service within an initiative aiming at the academic development of SEECs.

About

Participants will receive input on all relevant aspects of scientific publishing. The summer school uses a very hands-on, practice-based approach, for which both face to face, as well as e-learning teaching methods will be used. The summer school will provide students with information on a wide spectrum of publishing-related aspects, such as

  • citation standards;
  • research quality criteria;
  • systematic literature research methods and public health literature databases;
  • use of English in scientific contexts;
  • overcoming challenges in writing the various sections of a scientific article;
  • requirements from the publisher’s perspective, authorship, the peer-review process, impact factors, etc.

Eligibility

PhD or master students from Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, the FYR of Macedonia, Kosovo (under UNSCR 1244), Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia and the Republic of Moldova are invited to apply.

Apply, if you:
• Are a master or PhD student in public health or a public health related discipline (medicine, social sciences);
• You have conducted a personal study or have been involved in a study on a public health relevant topic and you have data which are sufficient to prepare a publication;
• You want to publish your research findings in a peer-reviewed journal;
• You have good command of English.

How to Apply

You can apply by submitting the following documents  by April 30:

• CV (European Union standard format);
• Letter of motivation, including a short abstract (no more than 200 words) of the envisaged publication and a work schedule;
• Letter of recommendation from one of your lecturers;
• Scanned copy of an official English translation of your most recent academic degree (bachelor or master diploma).
Please note that all documents must be submitted in English.

      which brings us to the implication that Lebanese students can't apply.
