Funkhaus Art Prize 2011

Funkhaus Nalepastrasse is  announcing a new art prize for sculpture taking place in Berlin in June 2011. The prize in the sum of 4,000 Euros will be given to one artist.
The Funkhaus in Nalepastrasse situated on the Spree bank was the legendary communication station during the GDR and currently is a center for the arts and multimedia.The complex already runs services for the music and movie industry, such as recording studios, recording halls, a theatre stage, film locations as well as locations for photo shooting and events.
Last year the Funkhaus has launched a successful art program for visual artists living in Germany. As part of this program, section of one of the buildings was converted into artists studios and the first curated exhibition with the artists taking part in the program will take place at the end of June 2011.
The Funkhaus is in a process of becoming one of Berlin’s biggest centers for the arts and multimedia, and the Funkhaus Art Prize is one of the new projects planned for 2011.

Terms of application

  • The application for the prize is open for all artists.
  • Each artist can only submit one work.
  • The prize is for existing sculpture/installation/three dimensional work.
  • The work cannot be larger than 300x250x250cm.
  • 10 Euros of non-refundable processing fee.
  • The artwork short-listed for the prize and chosen to participate in the prize competition will be displayed in the Funkhaus up to three months as part of the prize exhibition in the lobby of building A.
  • Artist must transport and install his own work in the exhibition. (Funkhaus will provide transportation budget within Berlin).
  • The artwork will be insured by the Funkhaus up to a sum of 8,000 Euros.
  • The Funkhaus and the Press Agency representing the Funkhaus have the right to use images, information, press release ect ofthe Funkhaus Art Prize in all possible media, internet, publications ect free of any charge or claim

A full application includes:

  • A filled-in APPLICATION FORM
  • A short c.v. including education and list of exhibitions
  • Up to 4 images of the submitted artwork for the competition
  • A short text about the work (not more than 200 words)
  • A portfolio of other artworks (up to 10 images)
  • A printed proof of paid application fee of 10euros (bank transfer)
  • All material presented to the prize must be printed on A4 paper. The application material will remain archived in the Funkhaus.
