Bastiat Prize for Journalism

International Policy Network (IPN) is now accepting submissions for its Tenth Bastiat Prize for Journalism. The Prize is open to writers anywhere in the world whose published articles eloquently and wittily explain, promote and defend the principles and institutions of the free society.

In celebration of its tenth anniversary, the Bastiat Prize for Journalism this year will have a total prize fund of $70,000 (more info below).

Eligibility

The Bastiat Prize is open to all writers, anywhere in the world, whose published articles eloquently and wittily explain, promote and defend the principles and institutions of the free society. The writers do not need to be full time journalists or associated with any specific publication.

Articles commissioned, edited and/or distributed/placed by IPN are not eligible for the BPJ. Also winners of cash awards from previous Bastiat Prize competitions are not eligible for the prize in the three years following their win.

Rules

  • Entrants must submit their entries through the online entry form on IPN’s website (more info below)
  • All articles entered for the BPJ must have been published in print or online (or both).
  • Up to three articles may be submitted for the BPJ.
  • Entries must not exceed 4500 words in total.
  • Articles must be written and published in English.
  • Articles must have been published for the first time between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011.
  • Entries must state clearly the name of the publication where each article appeared and the date each article was published.
  • Consideration will be given to the articles on the following criteria: intellectual coherence; persuasiveness; wit and creativity; relevance; clarity and simplicity; wider impact.

Entries may only be submitted online, via the ENTRY FORM on IPN’s website.

Entries must be received on or before July 31, 2011.
