International Winter Camp on Language and Data/Knowledge Technologies 2012, Italy

Trento RISE, the leading academic actor of the Italian representatives in EIT ICT Labs, is pleased to announce the 1st Winter Camp on Language and Data/Knowledge Technologies (LaDaKT), a one-week  event to be held in Trento, Italy, in February 2012.

The  school offers various activities such as presentations, demos, introductory  courses, laboratory tours, social events and discussions with current students and professors and aims at introducing the participants to the research and educational activities on Language and Data/Knowledge Technologies that take place within Trento RISE. As both areas are enjoying an increasing interest in the scientific and industrial communities, the program includes presentations on future opportunities as well. The school is intended to encourage students to apply for a PhD in one of the two scientific fields.  More information about education within Trento RISE can be found on www.trentorise.eu/education. All activities of the school are in English.

The speakers will cover a variety of topics. In the area of Natural Language Technologies these include: Natural Language Processing; Speech Recognition, Understanding and Interaction Models; Information Retrieval; Machine Translation and Natural Language Semantics. In the area of Data and  Knowledge Management the topics include Machine Learning and Data Mining, Information Integration, Social Applications, Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Ontologies and Conceptual Modeling.

Eligibility

The winter school is open to all interested.

Remuneration

Registration is free of charge. Accomodation will also be supplied, while a lump-sum for transportation will be provided depending on the location of the applicant: the exact amount will be communicated after the selection process.

Application

To apply for the participation, students are required  to send a CV alongside a one-page cover letter to winterschool@trentorise.eu. The cover letter should consist of a short paragraph in which the applicant explains why he or she is interested in participating. A few places will be reserved for applicants from other EIT nodes.
