Henkel Art Award 2012 – Art Prize for Central and Eastern Europe

Description

Without prescribing any pre-defined themes, the Henkel Art.Award. bestows prizes for outstanding and innovative works of art created by visual artists in Central and Eastern Europe in the fields of painting, drawing, photography, video and installation. The winner is chosen from the submitted entries within the context of a multi-phased selection process.

Numerous Henkel Art.Award. finalists or winners in recent years were subsequently invited to international exhibitions and have enjoyed international success. These include Dan Perjovschi (2002), Miha Strukelj (2008) and Mladen Miljanovic (2009).

Eligibility

Age limit: 40 (the artist may not have reached his or her 40th birthday at the time of the gala award ceremony held in Austria in October 2012)

Entries from the following countries will be accepted: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey and the Ukraine.

Application

Application must contain:

  • Curriculum vitae and description of artistic career (in English or German)
  • 3-5 reproductions of works of art: No originals!
  • Artwork in the fields of painting, drawing, photography: reproductions in the form of photos, folders and/or catalogues (Format: maximum A3). No slides, CDs or DVDs!
  • Artwork in the fields of video and installation: Submit entries in the form of video DVDs! (Maximum duration of presentation: 10 minutes)
  • All works of art must have originated after the year 2009

The entries will first be presented to a local jury in June 2012. The best work of art will be sent to Vienna, where an international jury meeting in the summer of 2012 will nominate the five finalists (so-called short list) and choose the award winner. Subsequently, the selected artists on the short list will be notified about their nomination and informed by Henkel CEE about their invitation to the Henkel Art.Award. Gala 2012.

Within the context of an official gala award ceremony, the Henkel Art.Award. will be given to one of the five artists designated as finalists.

The submitted works of art will be returned to the respective artists after the jury session.

Please note:

  • No fees will be paid to the artists for participating in the competition!
  • No liability can be assumed for any loss of or damage to the submitted works of art.

All entries to the Henkel Art.Award. 2012 must be submitted by May 25, 2012 at the latest (date of postmark) directly to the Henkel address in the respective country.

Prize

The entries will first be presented to a local jury in June 2012. The winner will not only be given a monetary prize of 7,000 euros, but an exhibition in his or her native country and an individual presentation at mumok in Vienna. Thus the total value of the art prize is 35,000 euros.
