Voices4Climate: Global Photo, Video/Music Contest

Description

In the run-up to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP18) in Qatar this December 2012, the Voices4Climate Photo/Video/Music Video Competition invites young people from the ages of 18 to 35 to submit photos and videos relating to climate change.

They want to hear your stories. How is climate change affecting your country? Your community? You, your friends, and your family? Do you have a cool idea for a local solution?

Entries that do not relate to one of the categories will not be accepted. The categories are: Agriculture, Cities, Energy, Forests, Gender, Health, Jobs and the Green Economy, Water.

Photos submitted as Entries should also have short captions (150 words or less), preferably in English. Videos (60 seconds or less) may be submitted in any language, but English or French subtitles are highly encouraged. Music Videos (between 60 seconds and five minutes in length) may be submitted in any language. The website is in English, however Entries in other languages can be submitted. Deadline: The deadline forentries for the Voices4Climate Challenge is 11:59pm EST, December 1 2012.

Eligibility

Voices4Climate Photo/Video/Music Video /Music Video Competition participants must be between 13-30 years of age (age categories are 13-17, 18-24, and 25-30). Participants must be between 18 to 30 years of age. Participants will be asked to certify their age when entering, and the World Bank reserves the right to verify the age of any participant, including potential winners.

Rules for Submission

  • Participants submitting photos and videos to the competition must be between 13 to 35 years old and entries will be divided into and judged within two age groups: 13 to 17 years old and 18 to 35 years old. Participants submitting music videos to the competition must be between 18 to 35 years old and will be judged within this single age group. Participants submitting podcasts to the special TerrAfrica Podcast Story category must be between 18 to 35 years old and will be judged within this single age group.
  • Voices4Climate photo, video, music video, and podcast submissions must be created by and owned by the entrant. The TerrAfrica Podcast Story entries must tell an African land degradation or sustainable land and water management story.
  • Video entries (5 minutes length max) may be recorded in any language, but English or French subtitles are highly encouraged.
  • Original music video entries must be between 60 seconds and 5 minutes, and may be recorded in any language, but English or French subtitles are highly encouraged. The song and/or music featured in the music video entries must be original and created by the entrant(s). Music video entries which use commercially available music will be disqualified.
  • TerrAfrica podcast story entries should be between two (2) to five (5) minutes long and submitted as an MP3 file. TerrAfrica podcast entries may be recorded in any language and must also be submitted with a transcript in English or French.
  • The deadline for entries for the Voices4Climate Photo/Video/Music Video Competition is 11:59pm EST, October 15, 2012.
  • Winning entries from the Connect4Climate Photo/Video Competition 2011 may not be re-submitted to the Voices4Climate 2012 Competition.

Awards

  • Solar backpacks, digital still/video cameras, computer tablets, and portable DVD players.
  • Photo Competition: Prizes will be given to a first, second, and third-place winner in each of the six photo categories, in each age group.
  • Video Competition: Prizes will be given to a first, second, and third place winner in each age group.
  • People’s Choice Award: One winner, determined by greatest number of votes, will be given the People’s Choice prize.

Application

Participants shall submit Entries in relation to one of the categories specified for the competition. Participants may submit multiple entries to multiple categories, however, the same entry may not be submitted to more than one category.

  • Selection: In addition, to the judging process, visitors to the site can vote on any Entries received before the deadline to determine a People’s Choice Winner. The one Entry (photo OR video OR music video) having received the most votes at the deadline will be deemed the winner of the People’s Choice award. The number of popular votes for each Entry will be shown on the site at all times.
