Description

Lead for a Reason Workcamps, international youth and volunteer projects play a central role in activities of many NGOs, and most of them need a camp leader, or coordinator, or teamer, or group leader. Names could be many, functions may vary – still, the leader is one of the keys to success of the workcamp and of other international projects.

These training courses for leaders of workcamps or international youth exchanges are organized by InformaGiovani, Fondazione Giovanni e Francesca Falcone, SVIT-Ukraine with the support of the European Commission, “Youth in Action” and “Daphne III” programmes.

The trainings will be run in three different moments in April. It’s possible to apply only to one session. All activities will take place in Alcamo, western part of Sicily, Italy. The dates are  8-13 April 2013; 17-23 April 2013; and 25-28 April 2013.

Costs

All costs concerning meals and accommodation as well as the program and materials will be fully covered for the whole duration of the training. Financial conditions for travel are different for each training. Please read the following scheme.

Max 70% of travel reimbursement, up to the following amounts: Armenia, max 560 €, France, max 385 €, Greece, max 420 €, Italy, max 175 €, Ukraine, max 460 €. Visa costs for Armenian and Ukrainian participants are covered 100%

Countries involved: Croatia, Estonia, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg
Max 60% of travel reimbursement up to 300 €

Dates of the training: 25-28 APRIL 2013
Countries involved: Czech Republic, Italy, Spain
Travel reimbursement up to 100%, up to 350 Euro

With the proposed trainings they aim to prepare leaders in international atmosphere, discuss different aspects of workcamps and international volunteer activities and their preparation, international cooperation among organizations, leadership, preventing and solving conflicts and other issues related to leading an international youth project.

All trainings have a special feature too: they’d like to address educational aspect of international youth and volunteer activities, how to enhance possibilities for mutual learning and exchange in international context of a workcamp or youth exchange or any other international or local volunteer project. Working language of the training course will be English.

The program will include the following topics:

  • Types of international youth and volunteer projects – workcamps and youth exchanges
  • Responsibilities of different sides involved in a workcamp
  • Leadership and group-dynamics, decision-making in the group
  • Intercultural communication and learning in a workcamp
  • Practical arrangements
  • Self-organization of the group, delegating responsibilities
  • Contact and activities with local community in international workcamp
  • Conflicts and emergency situations, how to prevent and solve
  • Educational activities in international youth and volunteer projects, how to make them interesting and engaging. Sharing topics and methods (human rights, social inclusion, environmental sustainability issues will be covered here as well)
  • Practical volunteering activity involving also local youth.

Eligibility

Trainings are targeted at activists of youth and voluntary service organizations, who will be leading international volunteer workcamps or youth exchanges during summer 2013, who already have experience of participating to a workcamp or youth exchange as a volunteer/participant.

There are no age limits, however participants should show motivation, experience and interest in being involved in the task of being leader during summer 2013 or in the volunteer activities carried on by involved partner organization.

The application deadline is March 15th, 2013. For participants from visa countries the deadline is March 10th, 2013. Results of the selection process and any other info will be sent directly to selected candidates by Informagiovani.
