Description

The Directors Across Borders (DAB) project is currently accepting applications for the Producers’ Workshop which will take place in Kiev, Ukraine 21 – 25 October, 2013.

The Workshop will focus on the creative, financial and legal issues linked to the production of feature films. It aims at providing emerging producers and directors with the fundamental tools to help them to produce local films that are stronger and more capable to compete in the global film market.

The Producers’ Workshop is not an entry level producing course. Participants are expected to understand the fundamentals of film production prior to attending the workshop. Instead, the Workshop will focus on strengthening the skills and knowledge of the participants in two areas of feature film producing:

  1. The role of the producer in the creative aspects of filmmaking,
  2. Financial Aspects of Producing

Eligibility

The Workshop is limited to filmmakers from the European Union Eastern Partnership countries which include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The Workshop is aimed primarily at emerging producers. However, directors or other professionals that are actively engaged in the production of a film are also encouraged to apply.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • applicants should have completed a university education in a related cinema discipline or have some practical experience in film development and production;
  • applicants must have a feature film at the development stage as defined by the following: less than 50% of the film budget has been secured; at least the first draft of the script has been completed;
  • the minimum length of the project should be at least 70 minutes;
  • the applicant must hold the rights on the script to produce the project.

Costs

The Workshop is free, including lodging, meals and transportation to and from an Eastern Partnership country to Ukraine. However, space is limited and applicants will be selected on a competitive basis.
