Description

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City (USA) is offering a new fellowship in museum education and public practice. One fellow will be selected per year to focus on gallery teaching and interpretation within the context of art museums, examining aspects of the intersection of museum learning, education theory and philosophy, art practice and art history, cultural and social history, and/or the sciences.

Fellowship

The stipend amount is $10,500, with up to an additional $6,000 for travel (maximum of one week) and miscellaneous expenses. Health care benefits are included. The term of the fellowship is twelve weeks and must take place between September 1, 2014, and May 31, 2015. The fellow must be in residence at the Museum for eleven of the twelve consecutive weeks of this term.

The fellow will be required to engage with the public and with peers at least twice during the course of the fellowship. This engagement can include leading a public program and leading a discussion with staff or peers. The fellow will also be required to work with Metropolitan Museum Education staff to develop a half- or full-day public program, including a lecture and/or round-table discussion, in order to open a dialogue about museum education and public practice for the New York City and broader tristate audience. During his or her tenure, the fellow will teach, train, and share knowledge about educational practices with the internal and external Museum community. In addition, the fellow will contribute to the teaching of various constituents, including families with children, adults, and Museum volunteers.

Eligibility

The fellowship is intended for an individual with at least ten years of experience in the museum field or related work.
