Description

People’s Trust for Endangered Species is dedicated to funding scientific research into the conservation of endangered species and their habitats, and do so through three grant schemes. The organization supports projects all over the world, through the  worldwide grants, and last year funded a range of projects including cheetah conservation in South Africa and tracking Hawksbill turtles in the Turks and Caicos islands.

In a constantly changing world where wildlife is under threat, many species are declining at an alarming rate. Since 1977 People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) has been helping to ensure a future for many endangered species throughout the world. PTES is a registered charity with a board of trustees and 13 employed staff members.

The scale of actual and potential loss of wildlife can seem overwhelming. At the Trust they focus on specific problems and work to preserve endangered species in their natural habitats. PTES believes that successful conservation is based on sound scientific evidence and advice with practical outcomes.

Grants

The organization is currently offering the following types of grants:

  1. Worldwide small grants programme. The worldwide small grants programme offers a number of small grants for short-term conservation and research projects. The programme offers grants between £2,000 and £8,000 for projects of up to two years duration. Most grants will not exceed £5,000. These competitive grants are from a limited central fund and are awarded yearly. It is hoped that these grants will enable innovative work and discreet projects to be carried out.
  2. Worldwide continuation grants programme. The worldwide continuation grants programme offers a number of larger grants which are available for continuation work on a project begun through a previous PTES small grant. This programme offers grants between £10,000 and £25,000 for projects of between two and five years duration. These grants are designed to enable some longer term investment in the most promising areas and must include some practical conservation work. They are not available for first-time applicants or new projects. A final project report must have been received for the preceding small grant before a continuation grant can be applied for. These are competitive grants, from a limited central fund and are awarded yearly. A maximum of one worldwide continuation grant will be granted per project.
