Description

The Postdoctoral Fellowships funding line facilitates the transition from the postdoctoral phase to a professorship. During this time, the postdoctoral fellows have the opportunity to extend and refine their academic profile. They conduct a research project of high academic quality and originality in cooperation with partners at Humboldt-Universität and, where relevant, their non-university partners.

Eligibility

Excellent postdoctoral researchers from Germany and abroad who are not yet affiliated with the Humboldt-Universität are invited to submit applications. Applications from all disciplines are welcome. Half of the fellowships are awarded to women. In order to apply for a Humboldt Post-Doc Fellowship you must have completed an outstanding PhD project. Candidates will be selected on the basis of their previous academic achievements, their international network of contacts and their postdoctoral project proposal which should be original and of a high academic standard. The proposed project should fit well with the existing research portfolio of Humboldt-Universität.

Fellowship

Candidates selected for Humboldt Post-Doc Fellowships are temporarily employed as research assistants at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, in accordance with the pay scale specified in E 13 TV-L HU. The specific pay grade within salary group 13 one is assigned to, depends on the length of one’s previous employment in the public sector. The Humboldt Post-Doc Fellowship – as opposed to a scholarship, for example – provides you with pension, long-term care and unemployment insurance, but you are also required to pay taxes. You can find some information on the public sector pay scale HERE.  The scheduled start of the funding period is 1 August 2014, but the specific situation of each candidate will be taken into account, as much as possible, in determining when the funding will begin. For a maximum funding period of 36 months, the funding start can only be delayed at most until 1 November 2014.

Application

Applications are welcome until April 1, 2014. There will be no further calls for applications. Applications will be accepted either via an online application tool or in printed version sent to the address below.

Applications should include the following documents:

  • a completed application form;
  • an academic curriculum vitae in tabular form;
  • a short overview about the international academic experience;
  • a list of publications;
  • copies of certificates (M.A. or equivalent and PhD certificate);
  • a description of the postdoctoral project, including main research objectives (max. 5,000 characters);
  • one key publication from the last two years (research or review article, lecture, book chapter);
  • one letter of recommendation preferably from your PhD advisor;
  • one statement by your prospective host institution at Humboldt‐Universität zu Berlin.

All application documents must be submitted in German or English. In case you submit your application per regular mail all documents should not be bound and printed on one side only.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of their previous academic achievements, their postdoctoral project proposal, and their international network of contacts.
