Deadline: 25 March 2014
Open to: applicants up to 25 years old, coming from Croatia
Venue: 5 May – 12 May 2014, Skopje, Macedonia
It’s time for youth to take the media into their own hands! The youth exchange “Raise Your V.O.I.C.E.!” will focus on how the media portray marginalized groups in our countries.
Through the methods of backpack journalism the participants will examine what it means to be part of a marginalized group and increase their own media literacy by recognizing how media build a “picture” of others.
They will directly interact with people from other ethnicities and backgrounds and talk with them about the important issues that shape their lives. In doing so and by publishing participants’ stories, the project will combat prejudice, racism and negative attitudes that lead to exclusion. Together with the Mladiinfo team as the hosting organization, participants and group leaders will explore the local environments of Skopje and its surrounding armed with backpacks filled with simple journalistic equipment to share stories of struggle and success of marginalized groups.
We are looking for 5 participants from Croatia. Participants must have an intermediate knowledge of English and they must be no more than 25 years old. The participants should be interested in the topic of backpack journalism, minorities, marginalised communities and media. Knowledge in photographing, video editing and/or reporting is a plus.
Accommodation and meals will be provided. Travel costs will be reimbursed up to 70%.
