Description

The United States Peace Corps program in Macedonia seeks qualified and motivated candidates for temporary positions as training staff during the upcoming Pre-Service Training Program (PST) for the new group of Volunteers. The positions will begin on or about August 20 and end on or about November 30, 2014.

The purpose of the Pre-Service Training Program is to prepare 45 newly arrived American Peace Corps Volunteers for their two-year service in Macedonia. The training will take place in the following communities: Veles, Sveti Nikole, Lozovo and Tearce. During this intensive eleven-week period, the new Volunteers will have training to prepare them for their service in two sectors: Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Community Development (CD). They will live in Macedonian and Albanian host-family communities; learn the Macedonian and Albanian language and culture.

Language and Cultural Facilitators for Macedonian language/Language and Cultural Facilitator for Albanian language 

The facilitators will work as a part of the Language Training Team in teaching Macedonian/Albanian language and culture to Peace Corps Trainees, in an intensive 11-week course.

Candidates must possess:

  • University degree in linguistics;
  • Prior teaching experience in native or foreign languages following communicative language learning approaches for adults; practical experience working with foreigners (preferably Americans);
  • Fluency in written and spoken Macedonian, Albanian and English;
  • Willingness to live and work in one of the aforementioned communities during the 11-week training period.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team.

Technical and Cultural Facilitator for TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)

will develop and conduct training in lesson planning, classroom management, provide information about Macedonian educational system and will be responsible to arrange and supervise practical teaching experience for Volunteers.

Candidates must possess:

  • University degree and/or teaching certificate at a minimum;
  • Practical experience in the elementary or secondary classroom;
  • Experience in teaching and/or training adults; practical experience working with foreigners (preferably Americans). Experience in conducting training and logistical management of such events is highly desired;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Macedonian and English. Albanian is a plus;
  • Computer skills;
  • Willingness to work as part of a team.
