Description

The IMT Institute for Advanced Studies Lucca, Italy offers PhD Scholarships for the IMT PhD Program “Institutions, Markets and Technologies”. The program lasts 3 years and includes a research period abroad. The IMT Institute is known for its interdisciplinary nature integrating competences in economics, engineering, computer science, physics, history and cultural heritage.

More specifically, the program integrates 8-field-specific curricula:

• Economics (ECON);
• Management Science (MS);
• Complex Networks (CN);
• Computational Mechanics (CM);
• Control Systems (SYS);
• Computer Science (CS);
• Image Analysis (IA);
• Analysis and Management of Cultural Heritage (AMCH).

Eligibility

International students are eligible for this IMT PhD Program. Applicants must be proficient in English as research and teaching are conducted in English. Potential candidates must fulfill the following academic criteria:

• Laurea Magistrale (or Specialistica) or a Laurea Vecchio Ordinamento from an Italian University;
• A foreign university degree of at least 4 years (or full time equivalent);
• Applicants obtaining their degree by no later than October 31, 2014 can also apply.

Applicants are evaluated by a selection committee on the basis of past academic performance and background, scientific relevance and research aptitude within the selected curriculum, and any other additional scientific publications. Short-listed candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive interview in English in order to assess their research aptitude in the chosen curricula and their English proficiency.

Benefits

IMT covers full 13,638.47€ /year scholarship for 36 PhD positions. The scholarship includes accommodation in school residence halls. All PhD students will have their tuition fees waived, free access to the canteen services, and will be insured against any accident and/or injury that may occur while carrying out their PhD activities.

Application

Applicants must fill out the online application form (registration required), provide personal data, and attach the required documents.  After the registration, students will get basic instruction for the submission. When first-time applicants access their account, they will be requested to choose the Track(s) and the Curriculum to which they wish to apply. Information and attachments marked Optional are most welcome, as they enable the Admissions Committee to evaluate candidates comprehensively.
