International Green Talents Competition, Germany

Open to: non-German citizens working on innovative green solutions, who are currently enrolled in a Master/PhD programme or already hold a graduate degree, up to 32 years old
Award: invitation for a  two-week science forum in Germany in 2014 and a research stay up to three months in 2015

Description

Sustainable development is among the most important challenges of our time. Striving to lead an environmentally friendly way of life that conserves resources is essential to preserve our world for subsequent generations.With its top locations for innovation and research, Germany is aiming to reach this goal by intensifying international cooperation.

This is why the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is now holding the 6th round of its prestigious “Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development to promote the international exchange of ideas regarding green solutions.The competition, under the patronage of Minister Professor Johanna Wanka, annually awards the 25 most outstanding minds worldwide. Hailing from various research disciplines, the winners are honoured for their original solutions for a more sustainable future.

Eligibility

  • Non-German citizenship and residence outside of Germany;
  • Up to 32 years (at the time of application);
  • Excellent command of English;
  • Enrolement in a Master’s programme or completion of higher academic degrees (Master/PhD) with significantly above-average grades;
  • Working on innovative green solutions from an interdisciplinary point of view.

Award

Selected by a high-ranking jury of German experts, the “Green Talents” will be invited to a two-week science forum in Germany. This visit will not only grant them unique access to some of the country’s hot spots of sustainable development but also allows the participants to exchange ideas with peers and senior scientists. In addition, the awardees will have the chance to present themselves to experts of their choice and discuss their work with them in individual appointments.

The “Green Talents” will also have the chance to return to Germany for up to three months in order to conduct a scientific stay at an institute of their free choice.

Both the forum and the research stay are fully-financed by the BMBF( except costs for health insurance and visa fees).

During the application process you will be asked to upload a current letter of recommendation  focusing on your career as a scientist and activities up until now (letter must be in English and should not be older than 6 months).
