Description

The European Roma Rights Centre invites applications for its 2014 Gender Equality Research Fellows which provides an opportunity for interested researchers and activists to conduct research on gender equality issues. The Fellowship is expected to start at the end of July 2014 and will last for four – six months. Fellows will begin by spending a period of time in ERRC office in Budapest, Hungary, for orientation and preparation of the research project. During this time, fellows will work on designing research, methodology, and the advocacy component and learning basic financial orientation and human rights education, as relevant. Fellows will then return to their country to implement their research plan. Fellows will spend up to two weeks at the ERRC office in Budapest at the end of the fellowship to finalise their research report. The Fellows will work closely with ERRC staff members throughout all stages of their research.

Eligibility

The Gender Equality Research Fellowship is a component of ERRC activities aimed at capacitating Romani and Sinti activists. The ERRC seeks Fellows who have significant experience living and working in Romani communities and who have been engaged in work with Romani communities for extended periods. We are looking for Fellows with robust experience in conducting gender-specific, collaborative and action-oriented qualitative research. The Fellow should have a working knowledge of English. Knowledge of Romani language is preferred. ERRC is looking for fellows from: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine.

Fellowship

The ERRC offers fellows a monthly stipend and financial support for expenses incurred during the research.

Application

To apply for this fellowship, candidates should send the following documents:

  • A maximum one-page letter of interest describing the candidate and including details of prior work or engagement on the issue to be researched;
  • A maximum two-page research proposal including a description of the project and basic context, objective, research plan and possible outcomes;
  • CV; and
  • The contact details of two referees familiar with the applicant’s educational or work background.
