Description

Front Line Defenders, founded in Dublin, is the International Foundation for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders. Their main aim is protect people who work, non-violently, for any or all of the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In 2001, Front Line Defenders launched its highly successful Security Grants programme to provide timely and efficient financial assistance to human rights defenders at risk. Last year, the Security Grants Programme awarded 297 grants, totalling €831,792 to individuals and organisations at risk.

Eligibility

Human Rights Defenders who are at risk (individuals or organizations) can apply for Front Line Defenders Security Grants. The applications must be in Arabic, Russian, English, French or Spanish.

Grant

Grants are for amounts up to a maximum of €7,500. Front Line Security grants can pay for organisational and personal provisions to improve the security and protection of a Human Rights Defenders and their organisation. Grants can pay to improve physical security of an organisation, digital security, communication security, legal fees for HRDs who are being judicially harassed. They can also pay for medical fees for HRDs who have been attacked or who have suffered a medical condition as a result of their peaceful human rights activities.

When the application is received, Front Line Defenders staff contacts the applicant to clarify the application. The applicants will receive written response to their application after the clarification session.
