As part of UNICEF’s global talent management strategy to achieve the organisation’s current and future goals, the NETI Programme focuses on attracting, selecting, developing and retaining new talent from entry to mid-career levels to grow and to develop within the organisation. NETI participants work actively in multicultural environments within the development and humanitarian arenas while contributing to delivering results for children. Eligibility and NETI program requirements

NETI participants are motivated and talented entry to mid-career level professionals who are interested in an international career with UNICEF and who have a passion for making a difference for children worldwide.

The focus and method of work for NETI participants varies from country to country. However, participants typically interact with government, civil society, academic institutions, the private sector, UN agencies, donors and other development organisations in working towards children’s survival, protection and development goals.

The following candidates are eligible to apply to the NETI Programme:

  1. UNICEF National Professional Officers and General Service staff;
  2. UNICEF staff members holding a temporary appointment;
  3. UNICEF Junior Professional Officers (JPOs) who have completed at least 15 months of the JPO Programme;
  4. External candidates from outside UNICEF.

The expectation of UNICEF as an employer is that university degrees presented by applicants satisfy the required level of education and come from bona fide (accredited) academic institutions. UNICEF will normally recognize only degrees obtained from institutions on the IAU list available for review here. Read more for the UNICEF core values and NETI competences here.

If the answer is “yes” to the questions bellow, then you are ready to apply for the NETI program:

  1. Are you proficient in English and another official language of the UN i.e. Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish?;
  2. Have you completed an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent)?;
  3. Do you have 2-5 years of professional work experience?;
  4. Are you willing to serve in any UNICEF office worldwide, including hardship duty stations?

What does NETI offer?

NETI participants have the opportunity to go through a unique learning and development path. The NETI Programme begins with a three-week Induction at UNICEF’s New York Headquarters (NYHQ). As part of the Induction, participants also attend learning sessions to further increase their familiarity with the processes of the organisation.

Each participant has the opportunity to participate in a personal coaching programme to develop their UNICEF competencies. In addition, a variety of other learning resources are available to strengthen his/her skills and knowledge. Under the NETI Programme’s mentoring scheme, participants have the opportunity to choose a mentor – a more experienced UNICEF staff member – who will be available to provide them with advice and organisational support.
