Description

The Winter School on Federalism and Governance is a two-week international postgraduate programme on federalism, regionalism and multilevel governance. It provides participants the opportunity to broaden their knowledge especially from the perspectives of legal and political science. The 2015 edition of the Winter School on Federalism and Governance will focus on “Federalism and Democratic Participation” and takes place from 2-13 February 2015 in Innsbruck and Bolzano/Bozen.

The first week of the Winter School on Federalism and Governance (2-6 February 2015) takes place at the Faculty of Law and at the School of Political Science and Sociology, Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck, Austria; the second week (9-13 February 2015) at the Institute for Studies on Federalism and Regionalism, European Academy Bolzano/Bozen (EURAC), Italy. The Winter School will last 10 days divided into lectures and discussion sessions, interactive workshops, study visits in Innsbruck and Bolzano/Bozen and a public lecture.

Please note that it is not possible to attend only one week of the programme.

Eligibility

The Winter School is open to all nationalities and is designed for those who wish to upgrade their knowledge through an interdisciplinary and comparative approach, including:

  • young researchers and academics
  • post-docs, postgraduate and undergraduate students
  • civil servants from a local, regional or national government
  • employees of international organizations or NGOs

Please note that the programme builds on an assumed prior knowledge of federalism studies.

Costs

There is a participation fee:

Option 1: € 930,00 – includes 13 nights-accommodation in a single room with breakfast.
Option 2: € 680,00 – includes 13 nights-accommodation in a twin room with breakfast.
Option 3: € 150,00 – without accommodation (for participants who wish to organize their accommodation in
Innsbruck and Bolzano/Bozen on their own)

The participation fee covers: Tuition fee for the programme, accommodation as specified above (option 1 and 2, option 3 is without accommodation), materials, guided tours in Innsbruck and Bolzano/Bozen, bus transfer from Innsbruck to Bolzano/Bozen at the end of week 1 (Saturday, 7th February 2015), welcome coffee and welcome dinner, access to the libraries and internet access on both venue sites (i.e. at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Innsbruck and at EURAC Bolzano/Bozen).

Not covered and must therefore be paid by the participants: 
Meals, travel costs and other expenses not listed above.

For participants from Innsbruck or Bolzano/Bozen (requiring only one week accommodation) the participation fee of the Winter School is reduced. Further detailed information upon request.

The organizers of the Winter School will award a limited number of scholarships. The organizers distinguish between:

  • “full scholarship” covering the accommodation costs plus breakfast for 13 nights in Innsbruck and Bolzano/Bozen (twin or 3-bed room) and a contribution towards the participants’ travel expenses (refund after the Winter School). max. 4 scholarships are available.
  • “partial scholarship” covering only the accommodation costs in Innsbruck and Bolzano/Bozen (13 nights with breakfast, twin or 3-bed room). max. 8 scholarships are available.

Scholarships are limited and will be awarded on merit, preference will be given to students and to participants living in non-EU countries. Please note that holders of these scholarships are requested to pay a participation fee of € 150,00- upon enrolment. The scholarships will be awarded after all applications have been processed by the end of November 2014.
