Description

The Aleksanteri Institute is a national centre for Russian and Eastern European studies and coordinator of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Russian studies. The Aleksanteri Institute (University of Helsinki) welcomes applications for its visiting fellowships for the academic year 2015-2016. The programme provides an opportunity for highly qualified scholars  to conduct research and interact with other researchers at the Aleksanteri Institute and with the wider academic community at the University of Helsinki and in Finland. Each Visiting Fellow has a research host working on a related theme and helping to establish contacts with the research community in Finland.

Eligibility

The visiting fellowship is open to scholars who hold a PhD degree (granted no later than 20 February 2015), in a field relevant to the Aleksanteri Institute’s research agenda and whose place of residence is outside of Finland. Applicants at different stages of their academic career, from junior researchers to established scholars, are welcome to apply. Visiting fellows are expected to work on themes related to the Aleksanteri Institute’s research agenda and are encouraged to participate actively in the academic life of the Aleksanteri Institute.

Fellowship

The fellowship is intended for a period of 1–3 months between 1 August 2015 and 15 July 2016. It carries a monthly grant of €3,000 to cover all expenses related to the stay in Helsinki (e.g. accommodation, travel, insurance, visas).

Application

Applications must be written in English and consist of an electronic application form and the following materials:

  • A letter of introduction that (a) states the purpose of the research stay, (b) describes how the fellowship would profit the research of the applicant, and (c) describes how the applicant would contribute to research agenda of the Aleksanteri Institute;
  • A research plan (no more than 2500 words);
  • The applicant’s CV (maximum of 4 pages);
  • A list of relevant publications by the applicant.
