Description
The Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD fellowship in Neutron Scattering. The Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen was established in 1921 for the physicist and Nobel laureate, Niels Bohr, who in 1913 created the groundbreaking atomic model that formed the basis for our understanding of how the world is constructed, and later as the basis for quantum mechanics, which has revolutionised technological development. The Niels Bohr Institute is the unification of the four previous institutes for the physical sciences at Copenhagen University. Since science is a fundamental part of their culture, the European Physical Society (EPS) has declared particularly important sites as ‘Historic Sites’ for science. Many foreign researchers visited Copenhagen, where they exchanged views and ideas with each other and with Niels Bohr. Several of them were later awarded the Nobel Prize for their work.
Eligibility
The ideal candidate should posses:
- A master degree related to the subject area of the project;
- Good grade point average;
- Professional qualifications relevant to the PhD programme;
- Relevant work experience with neutron scattering and physics education research;
- Fluent English (spoken and written).
Formal requirements:
- The position is available for a 3-year period for applicants holding a relevant master’s degree or for a 4-year period for applicants who are already enrolled or are accepted to be enrolled at one of the Faculty’s master’s programmes. At the time of beginning, applicants for the 4-year period must have approximately one year of study remaining before graduating from their MSc programme.
Fellowship
The starting salary is currently at a minimum 40,912 EUR including annual supplement (+ pension up to 5,651 EUR). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
