goEast – Festival of Central and Eastern European Film aims at increasing the international audience’s awareness for film-cultural developments in Central and Eastern Europe, and it will facilitate international contacts between filmmakers, thus raising international dialogue, understanding and cultural integration.

Festival goEast, organized by the German Film Institute, will take place from 20 to 26 April, 2016 in Wiesbaden, Germany. The festival showcases documentary and feature films created in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in 2014 and 2015.

They accept feature fiction films with a length of at least 70 minutes and documentaries from a length of 30 minutes. The festival presents current film productions – feature fictions and documentaries – from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe including the republics of the former Soviet Union as well as co-productions with substantial participation from these countries.

Eligibility

Filmmakers from Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia und Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.

Films must meet the following criteria for entering the competition:

  • Feature films: 35mm, DCP minimum length of 70 minutes. Exceptions require an authorization of the festival;
  • Documentaries: 35mm, DCP, Beta SP, DigiBeta, Blu-ray, minimum length of 30 minutes;
  • Production year: 2014, 2015 or 2016;
  • No distribution or TV-broadcasting in German.

Prize

  • Award for Best Film EUR 10,000;
  • Award of the city of Wiesbaden for Best Director EUR 7,500;
  • Award of the Federal Foreign Office for “Cultural Diversity” EUR 4,000.

  • The completed application form;
  • CV and filmography;
  • Applies to directors only: a description of the project idea, (no longer than one page);
  • A reference film on DVD or via web link.
