Description

The European Center for Social Welfare Policy and Research, a UN-affiliated intergovernmental organization in Vienna, has a vacancy for a researcher to work on a broad range of issues on health, long-term care and social policy in an international comparative perspective in the UNECE region. These include inequalities (including gender) in use of care, evaluation of public policies in these areas, policy analysis and consultancy.

What are your responsibilities?

  • International comparative research on a broad range of issues related to health, long-term care providers and social policies in the UNECE region with a particular emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe (including the Balkan region);
  • Evaluation of public policies (focus on integrated approaches) and individual projects;
  • Carry out advanced quantitative (bivariate and multivariate statistical analysis) OR qualitative (content analysis, case study) analysis of data on health, long-term care, and social policy;
  • Contribute to acquisition activities and to the design of research proposals;
  • Carry out the daily management of projects and ensure communication with networks of researchers and teams of experts in countries of the UNECE region;
  • Contribute to the organization of project meetings and workshops as well as to the dissemination of findings at national and international events.

Eligibility

  • Ph.D. or a Master’s degree, in which case at least five years of additional work experience are required, in economics, psychology, sociology, public policy analysis or related social sciences (Ph.D. would be an additional asset);
  • Experience of applied research and/or evaluation in the relevant fields with a proven record of carrying out own research projects or evaluation. Experience in acquisition and project management (small or medium-sized teams) would be an asset;
  • Sound expertise on European health care and/or long-term care systems, and/or social policy analysis, with a particular emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe (including the Balkan region);
  • Very good knowledge of quantitative methods (good knowledge of statistical software packages – preferably STATA and /or SPSS) OR very good knowledge of qualitative methods (e.g. content analysis, participatory research, case study) OR mixed methods;
  • Team spirit and ability to work in a multicultural work environment on interdisciplinary aspects of health, long-term care and social policies;
  • A track record of publications (peer-reviewed articles or/and policy-oriented papers and reports) will be considered;
  • Good communication skills and fluency of English language (oral and written), working knowledge of other European languages would be an asset in particular very good knowledge of German or a Central or Eastern European language (e.g. Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, Russian, Polish, Czech, etc).
