Floriculture Internships for US Students, US

Open to: US floriculture/environmental horticulture undegraduate students
Scholarship: $1,500 (three-month), $3,000 (four-month), or $6,000 (six month)

The American Floral Endowment offers two intern scholarship programs. Applications are reviewed twice a year. The deadline for submitting applications is March 1 and October 1 each year.

History and Objective

Vic & Margaret Ball Intern Scholarship Program – Training at a commercial production greenhouse or nursery. Vic Ball was the son of Ball Horticultural founder George Jacob Ball. As the leading North American producer and distributor of ornamental plants and their seeds Ball Horticulture has had a tremendous presence in the horticulture business. In 2002, Vic and Margaret Ball made a generous donation to AFE to establish this program for students to receive critical “hands-on” growing experiences, to help ensure successful furture generations of horticulturalists.

* Training sites are located at some of the industry’s most successful businesses.
* Training is available at floriculture production greenhouses within the United States.
* Training must be performed in a geographic region other than the student’s home or school location.

Eligibility

Full-time, undergraduate students who are:
* Currently enrolled in a floriculture/environmental horticulture program at a 2- or 4-year college/university within the United States.
* U.S. citizen.
* Maintaining a “C” or better GPA with satisfactory progress in a degree or certificate program.
* Internship must be completed prior to graduation.

Costs and Benefits

This program allows students the opportunity to intern at commercial facilities for a period of three, four or six month periods. Upon completion of their paid internship, the student will receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,500 (three-month), $3,000 (four-month), or $6,000 (six month).

Transportation costs to and from the location are the student’s responsibility ($700 advance is available for travel and relocation.)

Application Process

Students must complete the Vic and Margaret Ball Internship Scholarship Application and submit all supporting documentation by the March 1 or October 1 deadline.

Submit the completed application, the above-referenced statement, and a copy of your official college/university transcript(s) to your floricultural faculty advisor. The application and all supporting documents should be signed and submitted by the student’s advisor. He or she will then transmit the original and eight copies, including a letter of endorsement, to the American Floral Endowment.
