Description

The ETHNOCINECA is a unique film festival in the city of Vienna, Austria, which is dedicated to anthropological themes and topics. Initiated by the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology belonging to the University of Vienna, it is organized now by the organization “ETHNOCINECA – Verein zur Förderung der audiovisuellen Kultur”.

The core team of the organization consists of voluntary staff, most of whom studied or still study Cultural and Social Anthropology at the University of Vienna. In addition, the members of ETHNOCINECA bring varied expertise, vocational skills and experiences to the organization. ETHNOCINECA is basically constructed as an open platform. From here, there are continuously calls for internships, in order to enable those interested in film and culture to gain experience through a practice-oriented learning platform.

For 2014 this team announces a new highlight of ETHNOCINECA: The ETHNOCINECA Student Shorts Competition. Thereby organizers especially encourage young filmmakers by providing them an opportunity to present their films within the ETHNOCINECA program alongside the works of established filmmakers. The pre-selection will be carried out through the curators of ETHNOCINECA. Among the thus selected films, the audience will award the ETHNOCINECA Student Shorts Audience Award.

Eligibility

For the submission for the ETHNOCINECA Student Short Award, there are only three requirement:

  1. the film must have been completed after 1 January 2011;
  2. it should be no longer than 30 minutes; and
  3. the film must have been produced within current studies as a graduation film or as film debut.

There are no restrictions according the filmmakers’ age nor their nationality.

Award

Recognition and promotion of the winning movie at an international festival and a trophy.
