Description

The course Local Economic Development taking place in The Hague between 17 – 28 November 2014, focuses on strengthening the economic capacity of a regional community to make optimal use of the existing and potential characteristics of the area. Participants will be provided with strategies, tools and approaches to improve conditions for job creation and economic growth.

The questions that will be discussed are: How to develop and implement a vision for the area together with government, citizens, businesses and CSOs?  How to secure local interests vis-a-vis central government, multinationals and foreign investors? How to support farmers and small businesses in creating job opportunities and improving food security? And how to deal with challenges and opportunities generated by extractive industries? As part of the course the participants visit and interact with projects supporting small entrepreneurs, agricultural programmes and initiatives to promote tourism.

Costs

The course fee is € 2.890,-. This includes all training-related costs, as well as drinks, lunches, training materials and travel during the training programme. Travel to and from The Hague and accommodation is not included. The course language is English.

The Netherlands organisation for international cooperation in higher education (NUFFIC) offers the opportunity to apply for a fellowship for this training course, as part of the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) for short courses.To see if you are eligible for a fellowship and to learn more about the rules and regulations regarding the fellowship, please see HERE.

Eligibility

Eligible for fellowship are nationals who work and live in a NFP Country.

You can apply until 6 May (3.00 pm CET) 2014. If you want to apply for a NFP fellowship you have to register in the online Nuffic database: Scholarships online (SOL) HERE and send your application form for this training course.
