The University of Malta is one of the oldest in the Mediterranean and today it has reviewed its structures in order to be in line with the Bologna process which envisages the establishment of the European Higher Education Area by 2010. The University strives to create courses which are relevant and timely in response to the needs of the country. The supreme governing bodies of the University are the Council and the Senate. Around 10,000 students including over 750 foreign/exchange students from nearly 80 different countries, following full-time or part-time degree and diploma courses, many of them run on the modular or credit system.
The University has eleven faculties: Arts; Built Environment; Dental Surgery; Economics, Management & Accountancy; Education; Engineering; Information & Communication Technology; Laws; Medicine & Surgery; Science and Theology.

As from 2 November applicants with overseas qualifications can submit applications for courses at the University of Malta throughout the year. Applicants are advised to submit their application to the Admissions Office, as early as possible. Applications open in October of the previous year and close on 15 May of the same year. Applications received after this date will be processed only at the discretion of the University. Late application fees are also applicable.

Student Scholarships and Exchanges
The International & EU Office is tasked with managing the University and the major aspects of the Office’s work include the following:
• managing the University’s participation in EU programmes such as Erasmus.
• managing the University’s participation in international exchange programmes such as International Student Exchange Programmes (ISEP) and University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC).
• coordinating the University’s international relations.
• overseeing the welfare of the University’s international students in cooperation with other University entities.
• enhancing the University’s participation in international academic networks such as the Santander Group, the Compostela Group and Utrecht Network.
• promoting the University’s programmes internationally
Apart from the support provided by the Work-Resources Funds, the University annually awards scholarships through the Scholarships & Bursaries Fund.

With the support of the European Commission within the framework of the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) Erasmus Programme, the University of Malta has exchange agreements with several Universities throughout Europe. To find out if your University has an agreement with us, please consult your home Erasmus coordinator.
Students participating through the LLP Erasmus Programme must be nominated by their home university.
