Who can apply

LSE is seeking an MSc graduate or PhD student to work as an hourly-paid Research Assistant.
LSE has recently established research unit on South Eastern Europe at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

The successful applicant should have some background knowledge in economics, regional development and/or social policy (necessary), familiarity with data processing and relevant software (essential), knowledge of basic statistical analysis techniques (desirable) and an interest in the Balkans (knowledge of the region and of local languages is desirable but not essential).

Job description

The post-holder will work on identifying data sources, compiling datasets and assisting in the preparation and presentation of quantitative analyses; assist in the collection, organisation and analysis of relevant policy documents and in transcribing interview material; conduct short literature reviews and bibliographic research; and assist with day-to-day aspects of research and dissemination.

The post is for approximately 16 hours a week (actual working hours are negotiable) for an initial period of 20 weeks.
The hourly rate will be £14 per hour (including holiday pay).
