Palacký University, Olomouc

The Palacký University (PU) in Olomouc is the second-oldest university  in the Czech Republic, established in 1573. František Palacký, whose name University bears, was the most influential Czech historian of the 19th century. Olomouc is one of the oldest cities in Moravia, the eastern part of the Czech Republic, and capital of the region of Central Moravia. The university has eight faculties: Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Medicine, Philosophical Faculty, Pedagogical Faculty, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Physical Culture, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Health Sciences. Approximate number of students is 21,000.

Study programmes in English

Palacký University offers Bachelor’s (three years), Magister’s (Master – 2 years) and Doctoral (3-5 years) studies in full-time and part-time programmes. The language of instruction at Palacký University is Czech. If you wish to study in Czech, you will be required to pass oral and written entrance exams. The University, however, offers courses and programmes in other languages as well. There are specific admission requirements for programmes in foreign languages and you should enquire at the relevant faculty/department.

Many departments offer courses in other languages (e.g. German, French, Russian, Polish, Dutch, Spanish) within their regular study programmes or specially designed for exchange students.

Students from partner universities

Students from partner universities – either bilateral or Erasmus programme agreements – can come for one or two semesters and study any of the individual courses that are taught in foreign languages as part of regular study programmes or specifically designed for exchange students. Students wishing to improve their knowledge of Czech are encouraged to enroll in a Czech for Foreigners course at the Philosophical Faculty. These courses vary in the level and number of lessons per week and can be adjusted to individual student’s needs.

ERASMUS

University has joined the Erasmus programme in 1997. At present we have bilateral agreements with more than 200 universities in most EU countries and the number of partner institutions. If you wish to come to Olomouc as an Erasmus Student check with your  home institution Erasmus coordinator  whether your University has an Erasmus agreement with Palacký University and to obtain application materials.

Applications for fall semesters and whole academic year: June 15
Applications for spring semester:  November 15

The language of instruction at Palacký University is Czech, however, the University offers a wide range of courses taught in other languages, such as English, German, French, Spanish, etc. In August students can attend  a four week intensive language course – the Summer School of Slavonic Studies. During the semester courses of Czech as a Foreign Language are offered at several levels. All courses are meeting for four lessons a week and bearing 4 ECTS credits. All Erasmus students will be waived tuition fees, they are also eligible for the housing subsidy (approx. 700 CZK/25 EUR). More info.

Erasmus Mundus

The Erasmus Mundus programme provides EU-funded scholarships for third country nationals participating in these Masters Courses, as well as scholarships for EU-nationals studying in third countries.

Euroculture
The aim of the Euroculture programme is to prepare graduates from Europe and third-countries for professions in which knowledge of present Europe and European Union institutions are of relevance. The focus of the programme is on cultural and social developments: its inheritance as well as its standards, values and citizenship. The programme teaches students the methods and skills required to identify the European dimensions of social problems, to collect and process relevant information of European institutions and organisations and to reflect on the cultural aspects and factors that play a role in the process of European identity formation and European integration. Erasmus Mundus Master in Adapted Physical Activity
The objective of the Erasmus Mundus Master in Adapted Physical Activity programme is to combine the competencies of a number of European universities in order to offer the students a comprehensive training and adequate knowledge in the many aspects of Adapted Physical Activity (APA). A partnership between the Erasmus Mundus Consortium (Olomouc, Oslo, Limerick and Leuven) and 3 third-country partner universities is established. The third-country partner universities are the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, the University of Queensland in Australia and the University of Virginia in the United States. More info.
