Grand Challenges Explorations fosters innovation in global health research. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $100 million to encourage scientists worldwide to expand the pipeline of ideas to fight the world’s greatest health challenges.

Eligibility
The grant program is open to anyone from any discipline, from student to tenured professor, and from any organisation —colleges and universities, government laboratories, research institutions, non-profit organisations and for-profit companies.

Topics for Round 5 are:
* Create Low-Cost Cell Phone-Based Applications for Priority Global Health Conditions
* Create New Technologies to Improve the Health of Mothers and Newborns
* Create New Ways to Protect Against Infectious Disease
* Create New Technologies for Contraception

Application procedure
All interested applicants need to create an online account, which will enable them to register for an Explorations topic as well as create, edit, or submit the proposal.
The proposal should consist of two sections:
1. description of the idea
2. description of the project design and implementation plan.
