Grants for Art Projects Contributing for Change in Developing Countries

Deadline: on a continuous basis throughout the year
Open to: projects that use the arts to create transformational change in the developing world

Freedom to Create offers funding to projects that use the arts to create transformational change in the developing world. A wide range of art forms can be used and harnessed to educate, build, heal and inspire people – from educating communities on a particular issue, to inspiring people to change the status quo, to building capacity.

The following requirements must be met to be considered for a Freedom to Create grant:

* Projects must be run by a registered non-profit organisation
* Projects must fall into one of our six sectors: Education, Health, Social Harmony, Urban Regeneration, Freedom to Create or Designs for Life
* Projects must use an art form to educate, build, heal or inspire people
* Projects must indicate how their results will be measured both quantitatively and qualitatively
* The project itself must be located in a developing country, and is ideally a country most in need. To further assess whether your country may be eligible for funding, please see the list of Emerging and Developing Countries in the International Monetary Fund’s World Economic Outlook Report or the United Nation’s Human Development Index.

As a guide, projects that demonstrate one or more of the following will be of particular interest to us:

* Based in the worlds harshest places and least developed countries
* A new approach to issues and challenges
* Sustainable change
* Ambitious ideas
* Strong ways of measuring of the project’s impact on society

Grants are unable to support:

* Individual artists
* Educational scholarships
* Organisations that discriminate on the basis of race, creed, gender, national origin, age, disability or sexual orientation in policy or in practice
* Programmes that promote sectarian religious activities
* Programmes that promote impermissible lobbying
* Programmes which contravene the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
* Projects located in the developed world, such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the United States of America and the United Kingdom. However, please note that organisations based in these countries are welcome to apply for funding if their programmes are located in the developing world.
* Costs not directly associated with the project’s implementation. While we appreciate that organisational overheads are necessary for coordination, these will not be considered.

  1. This is to introduce to you our organization known as the Rural Agency for Community Development(RACOD) that would like to request for complementary grant assistance the Freedom to Create. RACOD is a local Ugandan NGO with mission of achieving social change and econmic justice by promoting grassroot projects that support rural women to make up cooperative micro enterprises.

    Established in 2008,RACOD is serving empoverished communities in West

    Budama County in the esatern Uganda district of Tororo. As a civil

    society organization, we recognize that true development is rooted on

    agriculture and rural based economy. This end, RACOD has been facilitating communities with information for strengthening agricultural productivity. We have been at forefront in demanding fundamental change in local conditions that creat disparities among people in terms of access to wealth and social services. Recently we were honoured by the Tororo District Local Governmental authority for accomplishing activities that engender livelihood for rural women in two selected Sub Counties including Nagongera, Paya. In doing our work, we think locally and act locally with view to creating positive impact globally.

    In course of our work, we facilitate discussions between and among local community members, the most recent of which reulted into a proposal by the women we work with, to carryon a joint Soybean production and processing venture. In spite of the expressed priority, the interest of the target group can not be easily realized due factors such as inadequate access to required inputs, extension support and the lack of money for buying a soy processing plant.

    We have gone through your site information and it is the same opportunity we were looking for. We think the proposed project is very much aligned with your goal.

    We invite you to grow interest in our proposed project and will be glad to submit a completed application form with additional information for your further review. Finally, we expect an indication if our plans fits well with your current intersts and budget limitations.
