Photo Contest – Picture This: We Can End Poverty

Deadline: 16/07/2010

Picture This: We Can End Poverty is a global photo contest seeking to show— in a positive way— what people around the world are doing to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), eight goals agreed on by world leaders to halve extreme poverty by 2015.

Contestants must enter either as professionals or amateurs, not both.

The 2010 contest will include a People’s Choice Award where the public will vote for their favourite photo online through this website. Click here to vote.

The winning photos will be exhibited during the UN MDG Summit and UN General Assembly in September, 2010 in New York, when world leaders will meet to recommit and redouble their efforts in the fight against extreme poverty.

Contest organizers: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with Olympus Corporation, The Agence France-Presse (AFP) Foundation and the UN’s Department of Information(DPI).

Who can enter?

Any Amateur or Professional photographer.

How many categories may I enter?

You enter only one of the two categories, not both – Professional or Amateur.

You can submit multiple entries, However, for each entry, you must select only ONE of the eight Millennium Development Goals and submit a maximum of three photos in the Goal that you selected. Ideally, at least one photo should be a vertical shot for purposes of turning it into a poster.

You can enter more than once and select a different Goal every time; but each submission must be accompanied by a separate set of images unique to the selected Goal. You cannot use photos taken for one Goal with another Goal. Such an entry will be disqualified.

What kind of photos can I enter?

The photos you enter must have been taken in the past 24 months since May 2008, focusing on progress towards the Millennium Development Goals, preferably in a developing country. Contestants may submit up to three different photographs, focusing on ONE Goal. Only photos not already published may be submitted. You must possess all copyrights of your images.
