The Nipkow Programm is a fellowship programme, designed to assist film and television professionals to expand their contacts and their experience by providing grant-financed long-term training for professionals through:

  • internships with film and media institutions
  • practical professional counselling
  • courses

Description of Activity
Fellowship-holders work in the following fields:

  • film, TV and video: scriptwriting, camera, sound, art directors
  • financing, production, marketing and distribution
  • new technologies: multimedia, interactivity, digital editing technology
  • TV computer design and computer graphics, computer animation

The Fellowship

The fellowship grant amounts to 1,500 Euros per month and is designed to allow the grant recipient to concentrate on his work exclusively. It is also possible to receive additional financial support to cover material costs such as film stock, hire of technical equipment for use of technical facilities, other material, screenings, publications, translations, etc.

Accommodation for the duration of the grant recipient’s stay in Berlin is not provided by Nipkow. Nor are travel expenses covered.

Eligibility

Participants are selected on the basis of the quality of their work, professional recommendations and the potential of their project with which they have applied. The selection of participants is made by an international jury twice a year, in Spring and Autumn.

Applicants must be:

  • from European Countries that are members of Media Plus: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany,  Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.
  • professionals (no students)

Jury Criteria

An international jury selects grant recipients twice a year. The criteria for selection are as follows:

  • the quality and potential of the proposed project
  • the feasability of the project taking into account the existing film academies, production companies, studios, post-production companies, media technology companies, film societies, film archives, distribution companies, broadcasters, etc.
  • the European dimension of the project and its potential benefit to the applicant’s home country, particularly with regard to production and financing, new technologies and script-writing
  • the quality of the work samples
