Prizes:  Internship at a radio station and one of 5 iPads

Do you believe that European journalism is key to helping EU citizens become more aware about EU affairs? Do you want to become an EU reporter? Now Euranet can help make your dream a reality! Euranet, the European Radio Network, is organising the “Euranet Awards”, a competition for aspiring journalists who do not yet have professional experience. The objective is to encourage the coverage of European news by encouraging the creativity of the up-and-coming generation.

Description

For the 2011 edition of the “Euranet awards”, the candidates will have to produce a report on the theme of European citizens’ rights. They will be sent to Brussels from Tuesday 8th to Thursday 10th November 2011.The candidates will be solely responsible for the production of their reports. The reports will be a minimum of 4 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes. The form will be left entirely to the discretion of the candidates: They are free to use the entire range of possibilities permitted by radio, such as a correspondent’s dispatch, an interview (with voiced over translation, if appropriate), the recording of ambient noise, music, etc. The candidates can either use their own recording equipment or ask Euranet to provide it. However, the editing and compilation of the report will be left entirely to the candidate, without technical support from Euranet. Once finished, the report is to be submitted in mp3 format (it is up to the candidate to choose the level of compression, but he/she should bear in mind that sound quality will be one of the criteria for the final assessment). The candidate can choose to produce the report either in their own language or in English. In any case, a translation into English will be arranged, by Euranet, in order to allow the judges to compare the reports. A jury made up of professional journalists will choose the winners. Candidates will be judged on the professional nature of the submitted report: Its content, writing, form, and originality.
Timeframe:
19 October: Deadline for applications.
8-10 November: The successful candidates gather audio material in Brussels.
20 November: Deadline for candidates to submit the final version of their reports.
December: The results are announced.

Eligibility

To be able to take part, candidates must:
Be a citizen of a country belonging to the European Union.
Be aged between 18 and 30 on 19th October 2011, which is the closing date for applications.
Be a student registered with a school established within the territory of one of the countries of the EU.
Candidates only have to show that they hold student status – the nature and the level of their studies is irrelevant. A letter from the candidate’s educational establishment confirming their attendance must be provided by the candidate.

Prizes

There will be 5 winners. The best will be named the “overall winner”. The overall winner will be invited to take up two non-remunerated internships at radio stations in the Euranet network. The first internship, lasting four weeks maximum, will take place in the chosen working language of the candidate. The second, lasting two weeks maximum, will take place in a second language of the candidate’s choice. Euranet will pay a grant to the overall winner, to cover travel and accommodation expenses (up to a maximum of €5000.
