 Description

The Roma Education Fund (REF) is an international organization that aims to close the gap in educational outcomes between Roma and non-Roma through policies and programs that support quality education for Roma and through the desegregation of educational systems in formal Decade for Roma Inclusion member countries. It is currently seeking a full-time Studies Officer to its Budapest headquarter office.
A Studies Officer contributes to building up REF’s knowledge base in topics of central concern to Roma education by developing a studies program that primarily – but not exclusively – draws together findings from existing research and state-of-the-art knowledge in the areas concerned, to promote evidence-based communication and advocacy outcomes; inform colleagues and partners; and influence the manner in which REF conducts its learning agenda.
The Studies officer is expected to work in close consultation with the senior management.

The principle responsibilities of the Studies Officer are:

  • To develop of a studies program to support evidence-based policy, communication and advocacy outcomes;
  •  To complement  program-based analyses with external knowledge
  • To commission and/or manage grants to generate secondary research

 Eligibility

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:

1. Education

– Post-graduate degree in a relevant social science. Either an academic degree or professional working experience in education.

2. Experience

– At least 3 years minimum in research management, with in-depth knowledge of research protocols; doing social research using a variety of methods, preferably in a field situation; relating research to policy or practice.

3. Other skills

  • Languages: Fluent in English.
  • ICT: Solid knowledge of MS Office and SPSS software (research/statistic software).
  • Excellent writing skills up to publishable standards is a requirement. Demonstrated ability to distil key points from written and verbal reports.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in team and take responsibility for designated areas of work.
  • Strong sense of accountability
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work cooperatively
  •  Knowledge of Romani language is considered an asset.
