The Schwarzkopf Foundation offers travel grants to enable young people to undertake field trips investigating political and cultural developments in neighbouring European countries.
There are two types of grant: classical travel grants and InterRail-Global Pass
Classical travel grants
With its travel grants the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe offers young people the chance to get to know European neighbours as well as to face current cultural or political developments of the respective country. It is important that these developments have to be seen in context of the guest countries’ relations with the EU. This way the Foundation wants to make a contribution towards a better understanding among European people and for the idea of a united Europe.
The Schwarzkopf Foundation´s classical travel grant, for which people aged 18 to 26 can receive travel cost expenses of up to €550.
Eligibility
Applicants should either be German citizens between the age of 18 and 26 who wish to travel in another European country or other Europeans between 18 and 26 who are planning a study trip to Germany. Terms and conditions for receiving this travel grant are applied to both parties.
Application Process
Deadlines for applications are March 1st or September 1st (date of the postmark).
Along with the application the Schwarzkopf Foundation expects:
– a tabular curriculum vitae,
– a reason for the chosen country and the selected subject matter,
– details on:
the planned realisation of the subject matter,
constitution of the research
as well as travel route and means of transport
– a completed and signed application form.

InterRail-Global Pass
The Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn AG has awarded InterRail-Global Passes to give young people the opportunity to travel and explore Europe.
Similar to its classical travel grants the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe offers young people the chance to get to know their European neighbours as well as to become aware of current cultural or political developments there. It is important that these developments are seen in the context of the guest countries’ relations with the EU.
The applicants freely choose the countries they wish to travel to. The trip needs to have a specifically defined research topic regarding a current cultural or political development in the context of European integration which needs to be explained and elaborated in the application. The applicant should also state what methods are envisaged to address the topic (e.g. interviews, etc…). A later substantial change of the topic would need to be approved by the Foundation.
The trip has to be planned and carried out exclusively by the recipient and needs to last a minimum of three and a maximum of six weeks.
The travel grant includes an InterRail-Global Pass for 30 European countries, including Turkey, equivalent to 422,– €.
Eligibility
Young people between 17 and 25 of who have permanently lived in the EU, the GUS or Turkey for at least six months at the time of application may apply for a trip with the InterRail-Global Pass.
The GUS countries are: Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Ukraine and Turkmenistan are unofficial member states.
Application Process

– a definition of the research topic and justification of the choice of the countries,
– details on the envisaged methods to address the research topic as well as the planned travel route,

Which are the GUS countries?

the GUS countries are consisted of Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, KAzakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. You can google it out for details and see unofficial/former member states etc.

Is Albania eligible to apply ?
Dear Juni, there is no specification if Albania is eligible country for the classical travel grant. You can check with the contact persons on the official website for the classical travel grant and for the InterRail Global Pass for sure Albania is not eligible country.
Ukraine is also considered a CIS state – can you confirm that Ukraine is eligible to apply?

We do not know for sure. Some organizers wants sharply the applications sent by the date of the deadline and some accept applications during the final day (the deadline day).
You should have checked with the organizers if you can still apply on the 1st.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
