Venue: The Youth Dialogue Programme (Sremski Karlovci, Serbia) from 7-16 December 2012

Description

“You are a Human Being, Be Aware of Your Rights” was developed based on the Human Rights situations in Europe and the emergency to invest and develop skills in Human Rights Education (especially among youth workers who are dealing with the most sensitive and with the biggest capacity of change among the global population: Youth!)

This project is focusing on developing competencies for Human Rights Education Multipliers among youth workers by equipping them with adequate knowledge, attitudes and skills for developing and implementing Human Rights Education with various target groups in their own communities and organizations. The main goal of the project is to develop multiplying competencies of youth workers to prepare, deliver and evaluate Human Rights Education activities for youth, in response to different HR related issues that they are experiencing in their own communities.

More specific objectives are:

  • To increase their knowledge and awareness level in topics like: Human Rights (values, principles, study cases), Human Rights Education (methods and results), social exclusion, intercultural dialogue, tolerance;
  • To create pro-active attitudes towards Human Rights ;
  • To develop practical competencies in Non Formal Education-specifically in Human Rights Education methods;
  • To enable the participants to act as Human Rights Education multipliers in the benefit of young people affected by Human Rights violations;
  • To understand and promote the value of volunteering;
  • To develop and activate their creative potential through Non Formal Education.

The training methodology has two dimensions (online learning platform and the residential part) which will be implemented as follows:

  1. Introductory phase (preparation for the course) through distance e-learning: starting after the selection of participants till the beginning of the residential training course. This phase will require a few hours per week of participant’s dedication.
  2. Residential training course: from December 7 to 16 in Sremski Karlovci (near Novi Sad),
  3. Follow-up phase through the online platform: after the residential training for 2 weeks (couple of hours required).

The Youth Dialogue Programme is strongly dedicated to working on human rights and social justice. Its particular focus is empowerment of young people, especially the ones coming from marginalised and vulnerable groups. Most of the organisation’s activities have been implemented on local and regional level, with the young people in Serbia and Kosovo and later on in the Middle East.

Throughout the work, we have realized that in these issues, the more global attitude is needed and it is important to emphasise the global perspective and global interdependencies in order to truly empower a young person. The reasoning behind was to develop a sense of common responsibility for the future of young people’s local communities from a global perspective. Therefore, this training course is one step forward in this process that will allow YDP to take its experience and passion to the next level and add the global perspective to its grass root work.
