Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate on Information Technologies for Business Intelligence

Description

Since its inception 20 years ago, Business Intelligence (BI) has become a huge industrial domain and a major economic driver, however overlooked by academics. It encompasses many scientific and technological fields including data warehouses, data mining, content analytics, business process management, visual analytics, and requires competences in information systems, web science, decision science, and software engineering. The Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate in Information Technologies for Business Intelligence – Doctoral College (IT4BI-DC) is designed to develop research excellence in this broad scope of fields. Its main objective is to train computer scientists who understand and help develop the strategies of modern enterprise decision makers. IT4BI-DC is a continuation of the EMMC “Information Technologies for Business Intelligence”.

Eligibility

  • Students have been awarded the equivalent of 300 ECTS of studies with a major in computer science, from an accredited university (listed in the IAU’s List of Universities of the World). At least, 60 of those ECTS must correspond to a Master’s degree.
  • Students must be able to demonstrate proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognised test equivalent to level C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). These tests include, e.g., Cambridge English First A, IELTS (academic) 7.0, TOEFL (paper based) 590, TOEFL (computer based) 243, TOEFL (Internet based) 110, etc.

Fellowships

Two different Erasmus Mundus Doctorate fellowships are available:

Category B fellowships are available for:

  • Students who are nationals of one of the 27 EU Member States: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, UK, Sweden, Bulgaria, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, and Romania.
  • Students who are nationals of Croatia, since the Accession Treaty of Croatia to the EU should enter in force on July 1st, 2013.
  • Students who are nationals of one of the EEA-EFTA states: Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
  • Students who have resided or carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc.) for more than 12 months over the past five years (counted backward starting from the official deadline for application to the IT4BI-DC doctorate programme) in any of the above listed countries.
CATEGORY B FELLOWSHIPS (36 months)
  1.  Fixed contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs: €3 000 – if mobility to associated partners
  2. Operational funds (participation costs, insurance coverage, etc.): €21 600
  3. Salary: €100 800

Category A fellowships are available to all other candidates.

CATEGORY A FELLOWSHIPS (36 months)

Operational funds (participation costs, insurance coverage, etc.): €21 600

Salary: €100 800

Application

Candidates are required to apply via the IT4BI-DC online application form

To file an application:

  1. Register an account
  2. Log in with your username and password
  3. Complete the application forms and upload the necessary attachments (you will be notified by email of the progress of your application)
  4. Make sure that your referees uploaded their recommendation letter before the application deadline
  5. Submit your application (notice that you cannot apply to more than three Erasmus Mundus programmes) before the application deadline
  6. Make sure you’ve received an acknowledgment by email confirming your application

Before you start, be sure you have the following documentation (all in English and stamped by some public institution certifying that they correspond to the original counterpart in your local language) at hand. You will have to upload them in PDF format and later submit them by s-mail (i.e., paper mailpostal mail,land mail, …) to the admission contact address

  • Cover letter (stating your interest, your possibilities in the Doctorate, and anything you consider relevant to know for the Selection Committee)
  • Passport
  • Photo (passport size)
  • CV
  • Bachelor and master certificates (adding at least 300 ECTS)
  • Official transcripts
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • Proof of contracts
