Tallinn Model United Nations Simulation, Estonia

Deadline: 28 February 2013
Open to: residents of the European Union aged 16-30
Venue: April 4-7, 2013 in Tallinn, Estonia

Description

Tallinn Model United Nations is an academic simulation of some of the bodies of the United Nations. This year they will be simulating the Human Rights Council and the Security Council. The event will take place between the 4th and the 7th of April, with the first two days dedicated to workshops and presentations from notable academics and officials from embassies and ministries across Tallinn.

Then, on the 6th and 7th of April the simulation will take place, where each council will be given a crisis that the participants will have to try and debate and resolve in their respective roles as members of their respective councils. The theme for the Security Council simulation will be the responsibility to protect (R2P), and the theme for the Human Rights Council simulation will be the rights of indigenous peoples.

Thirty participants will be accepted, with 15 seats Security Council, plus a 15-seat Human Rights Council that has been proportionally downsized in order to meet financial constraints.

There is a 25 EUR participation fee, to cover the costs of running the simulation, along with accommodation from the night of the 4th until the 6th (Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night) and all meals unless otherwise specified in the program. If you require assistance finding further accommodation either before or after the simulation they can advise you but unfortunately they cannot offer financial assistance. Also, they do not cover transport to and from the simulation. Unfortunately if you have to travel to the simulation you must fund that yourself.

The project is funded by the Youth in Action (Euroopa Noored) program, and works in close cooperation with the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
