The Youth Initiative for Human Rights Croatia (YIHR Croatia) is concerned with education on transitional justice, promotion of facts about war crimes and advocacy of new mechanisms for establishing facts, all with a view of combating denial and impunity for crimes. Through various forms of reports, education, campaigns, public actions and direct work with victims of war crimes and their families, YIHR Croatia seeks to contribute to creating a social situation in which young people are proponents of the message that victims deserve respect and criminals condemnation. YIHR Croatia operates at a local level with a view to empowering youth to institute processes that contribute to creation of democratic and open communities in which there are no politically or socially excluded minorities. YIHR Croatia works on establishment of regional ties among young people who are capable of fighting against hatred and prejudices and advocates the advancement in regional cooperation between the governments and societies in the region.

The Youth Initiative for Human Rights (Croatia) announces the call for applications for the position of Executive Director.

Basic requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (students finishing university programs can also apply)
• Previous experience in non-profit administration work
• Organizational skills as well as the capacity for team work
• Previous experience in writing project proposals and communicating with donors
• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledge of political and social context in Croatia and Western Balkans
• Excellent knowledge of English (both written and spoken)
• Excellent computer literacy
• Attention to details
• Driver’s license

Key responsibilities

• To head the administration of the organization
• To head the office
• To deal with the development of the organization
• Implementation of some of the fundraising activities
• Development and implementation of the fundraising strategy of the organization
• Development and implementation of the sustainability strategy of the organization

Previous experience in project writing for the calls of the European Commission, developing program and communication strategies and sustainability plans will be considered an additional advantage.

Location

The Executive Director will report to the Program Director and to the Governing Board. The place of employment is Zagreb, Croatia. A successful applicant will have to be able to travel extensively in the region, especially during the first month of employment.

An interview will be organized for the shortlisted applicants. The successful applicant will have a trial period of 3 – 6 months. Provisional beginning of the contract is May 1st 2013. Call is open until April 5th 2013.
