The Universities of Leipzig, Istanbul, Graz, Zagreb and London (School of Slavonic and East European Studies) are announcing a joint summer-school-programme for 2013 on the topic of “Globalizing South-Eastern Europe”. The summer school is designed for two years. Last year’s summer school took place in Leipzig where theoretical questions were discussed. Within discussed theoretical framework this year’s participants should propose research project which should be finalized in a form of research paper.

This year’s summer school will take place in Zagreb, Croatia. Summer school will start with introductory lectures on South-Eastern Europe. Participants are also asked to take part in seminars where final research paper will be discussed among professors and students. One of the summer school’s goals is to draft a curriculum on South-East European history and politics, and how it could be integrated more into global perspective within university programmes and teaching.

The summer school can be accepted as part of the individual course programme at the student’s home university. Participants can claim at least 6 ECTS points.

Eligibility

The call is opened to MA and PhD students from the following universities:

  1. Bogazici University in Istanbul,
  2. Karl-Franzes University of Graz,
  3. University of Leipzig,
  4. UCL London,
  5. University of Zagreb

Costs

Travel expenditure (90%, up to 360 €) and accommodation for the students from partner-universities will be covered by the organizers. The summer school is sponsored by the European Commission.

How to apply?

Interested students should apply until May 17th 2013 with a CV, a record of their grades and a short presentation of a research topic (no more than one page) to the coordinator of their university. The applicant will be selected by the joint coordinators of the programme. Check the full call for application here.
