Most Youth-Friendly European Region Award

Deadline: 30 December 2013
Open to: all Assembly of European Regions (AER) member regions as well as other European regions that would be eligible to join the AER
Award: AER Cup and flag bearing the mention “Most youth-friendly European Region”

Description

The Assembly of European Regions (AER) takes the development of the innovation of young people and youth policies to heart in order to improve the integration of young people in society and to increase the number of young people in the public life of the Regions and to ensure that these people have adequate opportunities for education, training and leisure.

The competition for the most youth-friendly Region in Europe seeks to highlight the importance of youth policies, including at regional level, to improve the living conditions of young people and to encourage the creation of, or simply encourage, general social understanding for the work of young people.

The 2014 edition of the Most Youth Friendly Region award (MYFER) will seek to underpin the topic of youth participation in democratic life with examples of best practice from the European regions. This year’s theme has been chosen in relation to the political report on “The involvement of young people in democratic life at regional level” which is being drafted by the Assembly of European Regions.

It addresses one of the AER priorities 2013-14 and is in line with the efforts on the European scale to include young people in democratic life. Especially in the context of the elections to the European Parliament in 2014 youth participation in democratic life becomes important. By rewarding a region and highlighting its best practices, AER hopes that other regions might be inspired and take up the challenge of supporting youth participation.
