Description

EMerald is a  two-year full English Master Program educating a new generation of young professionals, integrating a perfect knowledge of available mineral resources and modern engineering technologies.

It  gives students the opportunity to develop a broad and multidisciplinary view of georesources processing  from cradle to grave and beyond. Modern computer-based technologies used in resource characterization (digital imaging, tomography,…) and in resource modelling (geostatistics, 4D GIS,…) is the backbone of this degree, the objective of which is to train skilled engineers capable of using the most advanced exploration and modelling technologies available.

The future and sustainability of our societies is critically linked to the availability of raw materials and to the enhanced efficiency of all processes involved throughout their life cycle. There is a critical need, especially in Europe, to educate engineers through an innovative curriculum bridging the gap between georesources and advanced processing technologies.

Europe has top level engineering schools with a long tradition in these fields. Through a joint effort of four top-level Universities, it will provide a unique network of excellence for teaching and research in the field of georesources engineering. The existence of a new Erasmus Mundus Master Degree backed by a strong network of academic and industrial associates brings a unique opportunity to give these students a flagship role and increase their worldwide visibility and reputation.

Eligibility

The program is aimed at candidates having  a Bachelor degree of minimum 180 ECTS (minimum 3 years undergraduate program) in the area of Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Earth Sciences, Metallurgy or similar. The program will deliver an engineering diploma, therefore at least 22.5 ECTS in Mathematics at university level are required. However, if you have the sufficient skills to be part of the program although you don’t add up 22.5 ECTS in mathematics, you may take a math class during the leveling semester in Liège, Belgium.

Scholarships

The Erasmus Mundus program is aimed at both European (Category B) and non European (Category A) students. Students will benefit from individual scholarships. European countries are considered the EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

Category A scholarships are awarded to students who come from a non-European country and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in these countries. Student who do not fill this criteria may apply for a category B scholarship. The scholarship for Category A Students is divided as follow:

  • Amount I: For travel and installation (refund with proof of expenses: flight ticket, hostel bill, etc)
  • Amount II: Participation costs including tuition fees and insurance
  • Amount III: Monthly allowance based on 1,000€ monthly allowance for 24 months

Category B scholarships are awarded to European students. Category B scholarships have to be considered as a financial contribution to the student’s costs. This does not fully cover the cost of studies. The scholarship for Category B students is divided as follow:

  • Amount I: Not applicable
  • Amount II: Participation costs including tuition fees and insurance
  • Amount III: Monthly allowance based on 500€ monthly allowance for 24 months
